Newton Mayor Evelyn George is encouraging the community to support local businesses and events as the Christmas season continues. Several Christmas related events and activities were held in Newton this past weekend, andmany more are still to come. To keep up with what is going on, Newton Mayor Evelyn George suggests following a specific Facebook page.

“It’s called “Newton for the Holidays”. It has many of the activities that will be taking place the rest of the holiday season. It includes community theatre events, free movies, sales, and all kinds of exciting and fun things we can do right here without having to fight traffic and crowds.”

Mayor George has also publicly thanked the organizers, sponsors, residents, and visitors who participated in last weekend’s Christmas season kick-off.  Events held in Newton last Friday night through Sunday included the lighting of the Christmas lights on the Jasper County Courthouse, a lighted Christmas parade, the opening of this year’s free Holiday Christmas Light Displays at Maytag Park, Tree-mendous Christmas at the Jasper County Historical Museum, and Small Business Saturday.
