The Indianola City Council made the decision to give an 18-month notice to the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau, known as Catch Des Moines, at their meeting Monday, making the decision to stop providing a portion of their Hotel/Motel Local Option Sales Tax funds. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News with all of the momentum with the Indianola Chamber and Indianola Downtown, the council wanted to focus the funds locally.
“We’re just far enough away from the metro that each and every year the council has had a struggle, is this the best use of our dollars? Or should we be promoting our unique area and the central Warren County area differently? And so each year it comes down to, are we getting the best return on investment, or should we take those dollars and invest them both into our own resources within our communications department, as well as into the chamber and main street. And put those dollars to use where we have a true vested interest in not only seeing the entire region grow, but our entire community grow.”
