The Indianola boys and girls wrestling teams were in action Thursday night against Newton, while the girls basketball team traveled to Des Moines Roosevelt for a non-conference matchup.
The Indians boys wrestlers dominated the Cardinals, with Stoney Wood at 126lbs, Mac Crosson at 138lbs, Ryan Young at 144lbs, Elijah Blewitt at 150lbs, Jake Pontier at 157lbs, Corwin Cambron at 165lbs, Will Whalen at 175lbs, Zach O’Meara at 190lbs, Carson Slorah at 215lbs, and Xander Overton at 285lbs all winning by fall. The boys next wrestle tomorrow at West Delaware.
The Indians girls fell to the Cardinals 39-36. Callie Chapman at 125lbs, Andrea Taylor at 130lbs, Carlyn Lundberg at 135lbs, and Summer Wolff at 145lbs all won by fall, but the Cardinals pulled out victories late to win. The squad heads back to Newton for a tournament tomorrow.
The Indianola girls basketball team trailed at halftime, but came back with a dominant second half to secure their first win of the season 64-43. The Indians started off slow, trailing 26-22 at the break, but dominated in the second half scoring 42 points despite a foul-heavy game. Zoey Belt scored 19 points.
The girls and boys basketball teams will host Newton to begin Little Hawkeye Conference play tonight, the games can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA with Andrew Swadner and Rick Wilson on the call. Pregame coverage begins at 5:45, and tipoff is at 6pm.
