The Melcher-Dallas Basketball Squads split their varsity games on Thursday against Southeast Warren as the girls used a 10-2 run in the last minute of the game to come from behind 31-28, while the boys lost 73-14. In the girls game, it was a slow down game as the Warhawks made things tough for the Saints. Down 26-21 with just over a minute remaining the Saints started their run. Southeast Warren’s last ditch attempt to force overtime missed. Addi Wadle led the Saints with 11 points. She told KNIA Sports while not a thing of beauty, it was good to get the first win of the season.

Wadle: “That game was definitely not our style and things didn’t go as planned. Not all wins are pretty, but we were able to pressure them and make free throws to seal it at the end.”

Kesley Reed led in the rebound category with 11 while Gabby Overgaard pulled down nine. The boys dug themselves a hole they could not get out of and were never in the game. Drew Heaberlin led the Saints with eight points. Coach Matt Bennett said the first two games have been rough, but he is confident the season will come around. Neither Melcher-Dallas squad has any time to dwell as the Saints are back in the gym tonight hosting Moravia.
