Newton Dollars for Scholars will be raising money tomorrow for scholarships for Newton students who graduate next May. Hilary Montalvo, President of the Newton Dollars for Scholars Chapter, says the annual “Dollars for Scholars Tour of Homes” is always held on the first Saturday in December from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and this year there are five homes to tour.

“On the tour this year we have the Timothy and Debra Chance home at 1006 Holly Avenue. Dan and Carrie Cibula’s home at 2836 North 39th Avenue East. Brendan and Abby Lamont’s house at 735 West 11th Street South. Pam Vigil’s residence at 6911-20 Highway F48 West. And the home of Wendy Wagner and William Osborn at 2004 North 3rd Avenue East.”

Since the Newton Dollars for Scholars was chartered in 1985, the chapter has awarded 3,527 scholarships totaling $2,863,900. The amount of each scholarship has ranged from $100 to $3,000. Montalvo says the scholarships are also funded by contributions from area businesses, service clubs, families, anonymous foundations, and memorials. Additionally, bequests and donations facilitated by local attorneys and financial institutions have allowed the establishment of an endowment fund that ensures the program will continue into the future.

Tickets for the Newton Dollars for Scholars Tour of Homes are $10 per person. They can be purchased at each house tomorrow or online prior to the tour on VenMo using @NewtonD4S. Hear more about the Newton Dollars for Scholars Tour of Homes on today’s Let’s Talk Newton.
