Over $160,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money given to the City of Newton is being added to the funding for the construction of the new clubhouse at the city owned golf course. Newton Mayor Evelyn George told the City Council this is the last of the ARPA money, and that it had to be allocated by the end of this month.
“The ARPA funds must be allocated and under contract by December 31, 2024 or the funds must be returned. This reallocates all remaining unspent funds to the Westwood Golf Course Clubhouse Project in the amount of $160,696.75.”
The City of Newton received $2,270,057 of American Rescue Plan Act funding. $1,310,696 dollars of that is now going to the new Westwood Golf Course Clubhouse Project. $464,791 went to the reconstruction of West 4th Street while $165,300 was spent on police vehicles and equipment and $160,929 was used to buy fire department equipment and make improvements to the fire station. The City of Newton spent the remaining $168,340 on administration of the American Rescue Plan Act Program.
