The Pella boys wrestling team split with Burlington and Ottumwa to open the new winter season on Thursday, with the Dutch defeating the Grayhounds 66-17 and falling to the Bulldogs 44-33 at Pella High School.

Against Burlington, the home team earned five pinfall victories, including Hunter Smith (175), Brecken Ritzert (215), Jackson Menke (285), Carter Schroeder (106), and Hudson Ritzert (126).

Pella was locked into a much more competitive dual with Ottumwa. Pella’s wins came from JT Pollock (150), Davion Lampkin (165), from Smith again at 175, Logan Bruxvoort (190), Brecken Ritzert again at 215, and Carter Schroeder (106).
