The Knoxville School Board is seeking interested individuals to fill a vacancy on the board and will look to appoint someone at the next meeting.
On Thursday, Knoxville School Board member Dave Smith submitted his resignation which will now leave a vacancy that the board will look to fill by appointment. This is the second resignation that has occurred on the board since the last election as Susan Swartzendruber resigned from her seat in May and a special election was held that cost the district just under $15,000. Dylan Mick was elected in that special election. To avoid another special election the board is hoping to find a quality candidate that they can appoint. Current Board President Monica Sullivan encourages those who are passionate about moving the district in a positive direction to consider this role.
“We would love to find someone that has a passion for education and really exhibits a desire to keep driving the district forward and thriving in the growing community that we have here in Knoxville.”
The seat that Smith held will be up for election in November of 2025. Qualifications for the vacancy include being 18 years of age and residing in the school district. Interested individuals should contact Board Secretary Mobley at the KCSD District Office, 418 S Park Lane Drive, (641) 842-6551 or by email at craig.mobley@kcsd.k12.ia.us as soon as possible. The next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 16th.
If the board is unable to fill the vacancy by appointment within 30 days or a petition for an election is submitted by December 27, a special election will be held in early February. Questions regarding the process can be directed to Board Secretary Mobley or Superintendent Pearson at the District Office.
