The Newton Colfax-Mingo Pella boys swimming team won their Cardinal Invitational on Saturday. NCMP won with 318 points, topping the field that featured Indianola, Oskaloosa, Grinnell, and Vinton-Shellsburg.
NCMP won eight varsity events including two relays. First place finishes in individual varsity events were turned in by Ethan Comer, Mack Copeland, Finn Martin, and Hudson Meyer.
The Newton Colfax-Mingo Pella boys swim team will host Des Moines East and Boone on Tuesday at the Newton YMCA.
The Newton Boys bowling team placed second and the Cardinal girls were 4th at Cardinal Lanes in their home invitational Saturday. The Newton boys scored 3022 pins while the girls got 2197. Gabbie Humprhey was the top medalist at the Invitational, with a 416 series and high game of 222 for the Cardinals. Austin Kennedy was a medalist for the Newton boys, placing third with a 460 series. Gentry Swarts had the high game for the Cardinal boys at 257, and placed seventh.
The Newton Boys and Girls Bowling team will host Bondurant Farrar at Cardinal Lanes next Saturday.
The Newton girls wrestling team placed 4th at their Cardinal Classic on Saturday with a score of 141.5. At 235 pounds, Newton freshman Isabel Talley went 3-0. Cardinal wrestlers that won two matches and lost one were Stella Cupples at 115 pounds, Alivia Conely at 125 pounds, Johana Cerna at 140 pounds, and Ashlyn Van Manen at 190 pounds.
The Newton boys wrestling team placed 4th out of eight teams in their home Invitational Saturday with 113 points. Kent Montgomery placed first at 106 pounds, while Aiden Robson placed second at 150 pounds. Zander Robson at 132 pounds, Nick Milburn at 215 pounds, and Jose Benitez at 285 pounds earned third place finishes for Newton. Drew Bratland at 175 pounds and Trevor Manka at 190 pounds placed 5th for the Cardinals.
Newton Wrestlers will be back on the mat Thursday, December 12th, with the girls hosting a dual against Pella and the boys hosting the Dutch and Lynnville-Sully at Newton High School.
