It was two more Knoxville wins on Tuesday the Panthers swept Clarke 37-31 in the girls game and 72-41 in the boys contest heard live on 95.3 KNIA. The girls were another struggle as Knoxville was unable to get on track through most of the game, trailing from five-to-eight points. Trailing 26-21, Knoxville began the 4th quarter on a 12-0 run but seemingly take control up 33-26 with just under 3:00 remaining. But Clarke ran off five points in a row and cut the Panther margin down to two. But the Panthers made plays down the stretch to get the win. Addy Dunkin was key to the 4th quarter run as she shot three-three point shots to score nine of her team high 18 points in the final frame. Dunkin told KNIA/KRLS Sports after missing some shots early, she did not give up.
Dunkin: “During that 2nd half I was pretty locked in and I was missing shots, and you just have to trust your training, and that’s what happened to me in the 2nd half.”
Sister Hannah scored 11 points and iced the game at the free throw line in the final seconds. The boys started a bit slow, when they found their footing, the Panthers ran Clarke out of the building in a 31 point win. The lead traded back and forth in the first minutes of the game but Knoxville was able to close the first stanza on an 8-4 run, then blew the game open in the 2nd quarter outscoring Clarke 27-9 and taking a 44-17 lead at halftime. Landen Norris led a balanced attack with 19 points, while brother Lincoln scored 16, and Koby Higginbotham had 15. Higginbotham told KNIA/KRLS Sports everyone has a role and they do it well.
Higginbotham: “Our team is based around who can do their best things, Lincoln can go outside and hit a three, we have guys who can drive to either get a bucket or pass it out for a three.”
The Knoxville Boys are 2-0 and also 2-0 in the South Central Conference, while the girls even their record at 2-2 and 2-0 in conference play. Both teams head to Bloomfield and Davis County on Friday.
