U.S. Senator Joni Ernst has selected Sully Locker & Market as her Small Business of the week. The Iowa Republican is the Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee. Throughout this Congress, Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties. Sully Locker & Market is Jasper County’s selected business.

Ernst says for over 70 years, Sully Locker & Market has been meeting the needs of families and farmers across Iowa, providing full-service meat butchering and packaging to storing and shipping. She adds owners Rick and Cheryl Nikkel have carved their impact into their community. Next year, Sully Locker & Market will celebrate its 79th anniversary. The Nikkels also opened a Sully Meat Market in Ankeny in April 2023.

The original Sully Locker & Market opened in 1946, serving the farming community as a meat processing and storage facility. In the spring of 2020, the Nikkel’s became the newest owners and expanded the business. Today, Ernst says Sully Locker & Market processes over 850 cattle annually. The business also offers local groceries as well as homemade soups and dips.
