The latest update on enrollment in the Newton School District shows a continuing decline in student numbers. Superintendent Tom Messenger’s end of November enrollment report to the school board showed 2,612 students districtwide.
“The month of November is down a total of 9 students from last month and 16 from the first day of school this year. The loss of 9 from last month includes two fewer students at both Thomas Jefferson Elementary and the middle school, a six student decrease at the High School, and one additional student at Woodrow Wilson Elementary.”
The Newton School District started this school year with 2,628 students, which was down 65 students from the enrollment of the first day of school in August 2023.
