An ice storm warning has been expanded to Marion County for potential freezing rain expected to impact the region this evening. The new warning also includes Mahaska and Wapello Counties. Jasper County also remains in the warned area, which begins at 8 p.m. and continues until noon on Saturday. According to the National Weather Service, “significant” icing is expected. Total ice accumulations are expected between one tenth and two tenths of an inch. Travel is strongly discouraged. Those who must travel should keep an extra flashlight, food and water in a vehicle in case of an emergency. Residents should also prepare for possible power outages.
