Both Pella wrestling teams traveled to Newton for competition on Thursday, with the Dutch falling to both Cardinal teams and the boys winning against Lynnville-Sully in a triangular.

The Dutch girls lost their dual 41-39 to the hosts in a back-and-forth competition. Head Coach Adam Hale says the head-to-head matchup featured two nearly-evenly matched teams.

“There were a lot of encouraging things to take away from the night. Jenna pushed further into her match against a tough opponent and was doing a good job of looking for shots. Isabella fought out of a deep hole to come back and take the lead before ultimately getting a pin against another really tough competitor. Elizabeth continues her strong start to the season. Izzy got the first take down against a strong wrestler and is doing a great job of being really physical with her wrestling. We got nice wins by pin from Emma and Abbi and another win from Kenadi as well.”

Pella’s winning matches:
100 Bailey Schakel win by forfeit
105 Ani Bell win by forfeit
115 Isabella Smith over Stella Cupples (Fall 4:29)
130 Kenadi Montgomery over Jeralys Cassanova (16-9)
135 Elizabeth Thomas over London Everhard (Fall 0:29)
145 Emma Smith over Peyton Hoen (Fall 1:25)
155 Abbi Lemke over Heather Hanson (Fall 1:26)

The Dutch boys also fell to Newton 52-24, but defeated the Hawks 60-18. Dax Putz and Hunter Smith won both of their matches by pinfall. Find full results here.
