Tax season is set to begin in January. Brett Nikkel, a professional CPA with Van Maanen, Siestra, Meyer & Nikkel in Pella, says that having proper documentation is vital when filing taxes and that now is the time for taxpayers to begin to prepare for tax season next month.

“A lot of our income gets reported on IRS forms, so we’re looking at 1099 forms, W2 forms, 1098 forms, all those different informational forms that get reported to the IRS. But then, if you’ve got personal deduction items that you’re recording, certainly. If you’ve got a business where you’re writing up business things you want to make sure that you’ve got documentation together and all that. The end of the year is really good time to start thinking ahead about all of that, and maybe make yourself a list of what you’re looking for as things kind of come flying in in the mail quick in January and February, to make sure that you’re ready and you’re organized and know what to expect come tax time.”
