(12/14/14 – 9:30 a.m. update)
Conditions have improved on state highways, according to the Iowa DOT — most remain partially covered with ice. State, county, and city plows remain in operation. Air temperatures are reaching 32 degrees and should get into the mid-30s in the next few hours. Those with travel plans will want to use extra caution and reduce their speed.

ORIGINAL POST:

The Iowa Department of Transportation reports most state highways in Marion and Jasper Counties are completely covered with ice and dangerous for travel. This includes Interstate 80. Most roads in Warren County are considered “partially” covered. Heavy rain fell overnight, hitting cold pavement and causing freezing. Those with travel plans should strongly consider delaying until melting can occur. An Ice Storm Warning continues until noon today (12/14/2024). While county and state plows are in operation, anyone on the roads should give them plenty of space and avoid passing — especially with icy roads in place.
