The Marion County Road Department has received an award from the Asphalt Paving Association of Iowa (APAI).
Marion County Engineer Tyler Christian tells KNIA/KRLS that this was an exciting award to receive after the work his department put in.
“It really means a lot for our department because our staff really invests a lot of time in applying for grants, getting projects developed and put together, designed, and ultimately ensuring construction is adequate and meets the level of sustainability and constructability that we want so it can be a long lasting road for the citizens of Marion County so it really does mean a lot.”
A social media post by Marion County Engineer Christian states:
“This award is a testament to the dedication from my office staff. Those directly related with these asphalt projects have invested hundreds of hours over the last two years of planning, design, and construction to make these projects a reality. Our staff works to find safe, cost effective, efficient, sustainable and constructible solutions which were implemented into all of these projects. It really does take a village; as staff is tirelessly working along side these paving crews, others are keeping the office and departmental operations functioning while supporting efforts to fund projects such as this in the future. Marion County completed well over 30,000 tons of asphalt paving in 2024 on four separate projects that totaled roughly $9 Million in construction, with $0 in local funding and only $2 Million in Farm-to-Market (FM) funds (or 1.3 yrs worth).”
List of Projects:
- G28 $3.8M, $2M in CPF (federal grant funds) & $1.8M of FM
- G76 widening/shoulder paving 66% TSIP funds (safety grant) $200k FM
- T15 Chrisman shoulder paving 100% TSIP funds (safety grant)
- Flagler Bridge 100% federal bridge funds ($225k in asphalt)
