Dutch Men Win Twice at Prairie Wolf Wrestling Duals
Wrapping up the fall semester, the Central College men’s wrestling team won a pair of neutral-site matches in dominant fashion at the Prairie Wolf Duals Saturday.
Central started with a 40-4 win over Westminster College (Mo.), then wrapped up the day with a 40-3 triumph against the Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.). At 184 pounds, Sam West avenged a loss from his sophomore season against Austen Wetzel of Westminster with a 6-5 decision. He also had a 5-0 decision against MSOE. Also going 2-0 in their matches on the day for the Dutch were Carter West at 133 pounds, Carter Martinson at 157 pounds, Jason Hermann at 174 pounds, and Austin Roos at 197 pounds.
Central returns to action at their home Under Armour Invitational on Saturday, January 4th at 9:30 am.
Wisconsin-Platteville Races Past Central Men’s Basketball
The Central College men’s basketball team couldn’t stop the hot-shooting, #5 nationally ranked University of Wisconsin-Platteville in an 87-64 loss on Saturday.
The Pioneers shot 54% from the field and 42.9% from behind the three-point line, while the Dutch (6-4, 2-1 American Rivers) shot 45% from the field and 31.3% from three. Joshua Van Gorp led the Dutch with 20 points while also collecting his 10th double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. Karson Wehde earned his first career double-double by adding 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kaleb Brand scored five points while also leading the team with four assists. Owen Schipper scored seven points and turned in three steals, while Will Henricksen also scored seven points.
The Dutch are now off until after Christmas, next competing in the Loras Holiday Classic against North Central University (Minn.) on December 28th at 4 pm.
Two Event Winners for Central Track and Field Athletes at Iowa State
Taking advantage of the facilities at Iowa State University, the Central College track and field teams had some strong marks with a small crew at the Iowa State Holiday Invitational Saturday.
Men’s triple jumper Kale Purcell had a new personal-best mark of 47 feet, 4.5 inches to win the event. In the women’s 3,000-meter race, Peyton Steffen was also victorious in a time of 9 minutes, 40.35 seconds, which is the fastest in Division III so far this season. Addison Parrott was third in the 3,000-meter race in 9:52.46. In the women’s 400-meter dash, Emily McMartin was 13th (59.55 seconds), Ava Parkins was 14th (1:00.88) and Lizzy Van Utrecht was 15th (1:00.71). In the men’s 400-meter dash, Jrake Van Hemert was 14th (50.80 seconds) and Gabe Feldmann was 18th (51.56).
Central will reset after the student’s winter break with the Dutch Athletics Classic on January 17th, 2025.
