Jasper County’s Veterans Affairs Administrator has been terminated by the Jasper County Veterans Affairs Commission, and the office is being run with outside help.

The commission ended Alyssa Wilson’s employment after putting her on paid leave and investigating her work habits. Over the past three months, commissioners say they can not account for 45 hours of her work. They believe Wilson, who is not a veteran, was coming in late, leaving early, and taking vacation and sick time without their knowledge. Many veterans Wilson has helped while leading Jasper County’s Veterans Affairs Office have defended her work, and said she needed additional help in the office.

Jasper County Director of Human Resources Dennis Simon says Shared Benefits Coordinator Josh Price is currently getting assistance in the Veterans Affairs Office.

“He has been approved for his national credentials and has to get his background and finger printing done in Des Moines. Once that is done he can process and review claims on his own. Until then we have had the state office offer to send people to our local office to help, and Veterans Affairs Offices from surrounding counties are offering to do the same.”

Simon says over the next several weeks there will be outside assistance in the local office at least every other day. The Jasper County Human Resource Director Dennis Simon adds he’s waiting for direction from the Jasper County Veterans Affairs Commission on how they want to move forward with the Administrator position.
