Two days after freezing rain put a halt to non-conference basketball, Pella welcomed Fort Madison with a sweep on Monday, as heard live on KRLS2.
The Dutch girls won 46-41 and the boys pulled away in the 2nd half 78-64 in the twin bill. Pella’s girls held off the Bloodhounds after coming back from down five at one point. Head Coach Blaine Forsythe is proud of how his team keeps finding ways to win.
“We know our shots won’t always fall, but we can always control our effort on the defensive end. I am happy for our players and how they were able to finish out this game.”
Jenna Oltman led the way with 10 points and five rebounds, followed by a five-point, six-rebound, three-assist, and three-steal performance by Mykaela Vincent.
Pella’s boys started strong but watched Fort Madison mount their own lead in the 2nd quarter. The Dutch offense exploded in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Bloodhounds 26-13 to put distance in the final margin.
Five Dutch players scored in double figures, including Jack McGuire (13), Griffin Simpson (12), Austin Schulte (11), Colin Kerndt (10), and Tyson Barnes (10). Pella’s girls improve to 5-2 overall and the boys are now 2-2; both are back in action in short order tonight, when they welcome Gilbert for another out-of-conference doubleheader. The Tigers girls are ranked 7th in Class 4A and the boys are 4-0. On-air coverage begins at 5:45 this evening on 92.1 KRLS and the Pella Dutch Live YouTube channel.
