The Centre for Arts and Artists in Newton provides creative space and activities for professionals to everyday people. Sophie Kruger is the Executive Director of the Centre, after starting as an intern there in 2023. She says every space in the building is used.
“Downstairs we host a few independent contractors. They are mostly clinical psychologists or therapists. Upstairs we have studios for several working artists in all types of art, a clay room where we teach monthly clay classes, and a classroom where we teach monthly classes such as sculpture and painting.”
While a lot of people take advantage of the art classes the Centre for Arts and Artists provide, Kruger would also like to see more people participate.
“It’s always nice to see a face I haven’t seen before and to engage someone in some kind of creative based activity because it’s really healing in a way.”
Kruger says some classes are free, others have a fee which includes all the materials. The Centre for Arts and Artists is located at 501 West Third Street North in Newton. Executive Director Sophie Kruger talks more about the Centre on today’s Let’s Talk Newton.
