The American Rivers Conference provided the first update for the men’s and women’s All-Sports Trophy standings on Wednesday following the completion of the eight fall championships.

Locally, the Central College women are tied for first place with Wartburg College at 33.5 points in the Marjorie Giles Women’s All-Sports Trophy standings, while the Simpson College women sit in seventh place with 21 points. In the Elmer Hertel Men’s All-Sports Trophy standings, the Central College men’s athletics teams are in third place with 17 points, while the Simpson men are in fifth place with 15 points. In the Combined All-Sports Trophy standings, Central is second with 15.5 points and Simpson is tied for fifth with eight points.

Helping propel the Central women into a tie for first place in the Marjorie Giles Women’s All-Sports Trophy standings, were top finishes of runner-up in women’s golf and women’s cross country. The Simpson women were led to their early placement in the standings by a runner-up finish in women’s soccer. The top finish for the Central men en route to their third place standing following the fall season came from the football team, who finished in third place in the conference. The Simpson men were led by fifth place finishes in the American Rivers Conference in football, cross country, and men’s soccer.

Since the Marjorie Giles All-Sports Trophy was created in 1982-1983, the Central women have won the award ten times, while Simpson has collected four trophies. The Central men have won the Elmer Hertel Men’s All-Sports Trophy 15 times since it was first awarded in 1970-71, while the Simpson men have claimed the trophy one time.
