The Norwalk girls wrestlers finished with a 2-2 record at Thursday night’s Winterset Dual Tournament. The Warriors posted wins of 29-15 over Central Decatur and 48-6 vs. Winterset. They lost to Newton 48-18 and fell to Carlisle 60-18.

Kaylie Popiano and Madelyn Carroll both went 4-0 on the night for Norwalk. Popiano earned two pins and a decision at 130 pounds and Carroll added one pin and one decision at 135/140. The Warriors tallied seven pins against Winterset as Brookelynn Lonnevik, Hannah Smith, Maya Wojtowicz, Popiano, Carroll, Katie Liedtke and Lizzie Reeves all won by fall. Smith won three total matches in the meet.

The Norwalk girls will finish the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule on Saturday at Boone.

Friday’s Events

The Norwalk boys wrestlers, as well as both basketball teams, will compete today.

The Warrior wrestling team takes a 4-1 record into the two-day, 32-team Battle of Waterloo dual tournament at Young Arena. Norwalk wrestles three matches in the Jeff Voss Bracket starting today at 4:00 p.m. vs. North Scott. Competition will continue on Saturday.

The Norwalk basketball teams travel to Indianola tonight for a girl-boy varsity doubleheader at 6:00 p.m. Both games can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA and kniakrls.com (KNIA3), starting with pregame coverage at 5:45. The Warrior girls moved up one spot to No. 3 in this week’s Class 4A rankings. They are 8-0 overall and 2-0 in Little Hawkeye Conference play. The Warrior boys are also 2-0 in the conference and 4-1 overall.
