It is a busy Saturday for Knoxville Sports Squads as three teams are in action. The bowling squads are taking on Pella Christian at Statesmen Lanes in Oskaloosa. Both teams are relatively young and very inexperienced this season. After taking heavy graduation losses last season, Coach Shaun Renard tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the boys will be led by Troy Binns. Binns lead the Panthers in pins with 1,069, high game with a 217 and high series with a 400. Renard adds the goal for Binns and girls player Brigette Renard are to make the state meet.

Renard: “Troy Binns and Brigette Renard both are telling me they want to go to state, what we need to do is get a team wrapped around them. They want to go to state and now they need to put in the work that it requires.”

Today’s meet is set to begin at noon. The Knoxville Girls Wrestlers head to Chariton for the Warhorse Invitational. The Panthers will be joined by 19 other teams from around the area and state including Cardinal, Newton, Centerville, and Clarke among others. Knxoville’s Serenity Turner has bolted out to a 19-1 record this season winning two meets. Mariah Ripperger is 10-5 and Coach Doug Hatch says many of the girls are finding small things to improve on. While the girls are wrestling at Chariton, the boys are at the Bill Van Horn Invitational at Pella. This tournament recently expanded to 16 teams and will bring in stiff competition from around the region. Knoxville is coming off winning one of three matches at Eddyville-Blakesburg on Thursday.
