Pella Regional Health Center announced that Amy Hazelwood at their Ottumwa Medical Clinic is the recipient of their quarterly DAISY Award. The DAISY program is a national award, given at the local level, to registered nurses who exemplify extraordinary nursing. The focus is on the special touches and human consideration these nurses give to their patients.

Excerpt from Amy’s nomination by co-worker, Emily Kahler:

“Amy is our triage nurse at the clinic, and I have witnessed countless instances where she goes above and beyond for our patients. She always answers phone calls with a smile, no matter what kind of day she’s having. One personal touch that stands out is how she consistently uses the patient’s name throughout the conversation, which she believes provides a “little extra care.” Amy maintains a kind, caring, and patient attitude in any situation. In fact, she embraces these moments as an opportunity to make those patients feel better after their call. Many patients recognize Amy by her voice alone when they call the clinic.”

Hazelwood received a certificate that reads: “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.” She was also given a sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.
