Marion County Special Olympic bowlers excelled at the state bowling competition held in November.
On Saturday, November 23rd, ten Marion County Special Olympics athletes competed at the 2024 State Bowling competition at Bowlerama Lanes in Des Moines. The District Bowling contest was held on October 17th at Great Escape in Pleasant Hill and athletes that received first place at Districts qualified for State Bowling.
The results from State Special Olympics Bowling include:
1st Place Gold Medal-Cameron Cross, Jacob Hindman, Charlie Leavitt;
2nd Place Silver Medal-Taylor Fearno, Tegan Ripperger, Doubles Team Shawn Barker
and Seth Martin;
3rd Place Bronze Medal-Doubles Team Marissa Schletzbaum and Michelle Turnage;
6th Place Medal-Savannah Stralow.
The coaches for the Marion County Special Olympics team are Maureen and Roger Schletzbaum. The Special Olympics athletes will now be working on their basketball skills and dance practices throughout the winter in preparation for basketball skills in January and the Spring Dance Classic in March.
