Newton boys basketball coach Jason Carter is putting the team through some tough practices and a scrimmage during the Christmas break. The Cardinals are getting ready to play Des Moines Hoover at home next Friday night January 3rd. The next day, Saturday afternoon January 4th, Newton will take on Knoxville at Wells Fargo Arena. Carter says the quick turnaround is worth it.

“It’s a fun event that Wells Fargo puts on for these high school kids and allows them to come in and play. We are definitely excited to get there and play another game.”

The Newton girls basketball team will also play Des Moines Hoover this coming Friday night and Knoxville at Wells Fargo Arena at noon next Saturday. Both the girls and boys games can be heard live on the KRLS3 stream Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Pregame coverage Friday night begins at 5:45 p.m., and at 11:45 a.m. Saturday.

The Newton girls are 4-3 overall and 0-3 in the conference. The Cardinal boys are 3-2 overall, 1-1 in conference play.
