The Jasper County Board of Supervisors will meet in regular session at 9:30 Tuesday morning.

The agenda includes the purchase of 35 new tasers for the Sheriff’s Department from Axon Enterprises of Scottsdale, Arizona. The Board of Supervisors tentatively approved this purchase during their last meeting December 17th, but a formal board vote on the $167,000 purchase still needs to occur after a public hearing.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Brad Shutts, who is Jasper County’s Sheriff-elect, says the department has been using Axon tasers for about twenty years. But he says the current taser model they are using is ten years old and not manufactured anymore. He adds Axon is giving the department a $49,537 discount. The new tasers would be paid off over five years. The first payment of $16,701 would be made this coming January. Then each annual January payment the next four years would be $37,575.22.
