Getting two full weeks to rest up and get back into the gym for practices, the Pella Christian boys basketball team has focused on a more well-rounded approach to the game.
Through six contests so far this winter, the Eagles have been strong on the defensive end of the floor by allowing just 55 points per game. On the other end of the court, the Eagles are averaging just 56.8 points per contest, while connecting on just 28.6% of their three-pointers and 43.1% of their shots overall. Eagles head coach Marv Van Wyk said that their primary approach to practices before the holiday break were defense-oriented, and now that they have that part of the game down better, they will begin to work on making adjustments offensively to become more balanced.
“Our focus up to this point has really been on the defensive end and just trying to get locked in defensively. I feel like that’s a good base and now we’re going to start balancing that out with some more offensive work and understanding what our strengths are there a little better, rather than just trying to play. So, I think we’re going to continue to get better and I know we’re going to continue to get better, because these kids are going to work at that.”
