2024 went down as another successful year for the Iowa Speedway in Newton.

The $70-million dollar ⅞ mile racetrack, now owned by NASCAR, opened in September 2006 and hosted its first NASCAR Cup Series race on June 16th. The inaugural Cup Series Race was won by Ryan Blaney, a driver with multiple Iowa ties. Blaney’s mother Lisa is from Chariton and his father Dave Blaney is a former Stock Car and NASCAR driver, who won the Knoxville Nationals in 1997. Iowa Speedway announced in late August tickets for that first race sold out before officially going on sale. USA Network also confirmed the television broadcast of the race averaged 2.69 million viewers, and was the most watched Nascar Cup Series race on cable since July 2023.

IndyCar officials say ticket sales for this year’s Hy-Vee IndyCar weekend at Iowa Speedway increased more than 20% from last year, and 45% of the tickets were purchased by fans outside of Iowa. About 80,000 spectators who purchased tickets saw Scott McLaughlin win the first oval race of his career on July 13th, while 2022 NTT IndyCar Series Champion Will Power went to victory lane on July 14th. The weekend also featured concerts by Luke Combs, Eric Church, Kelsea Ballerini, and Post Malone. Hy-Vee announced earlier this year that they will be continuing their sponsorship of the Hy-Vee IndyCar weekend at Iowa Speedway.

The 2025 Hy-Vee IndyCar Weekend at Iowa Speedway will be Friday, July 11th through Sunday, July 13th, while NASCAR will return to Newton Friday, August 1st through Sunday, August 3rd.
