Jasper County’s General Assistance Office has experienced a significant increase in requests over the past year. Office Director Connie McQuiston has been working in the office for over 16 years. She says requests for assistance grew tremendously in 2024.

“I was reviewing some of our numbers and I would say this last year has tripled what we have done the past three years prior. It has certainly escalated.”

McQuiston says the General Assistance Office primarily provides rent and utility help for low income residents. SThe office is in the Jasper County Administration Building at 315 West Third Street North in Newton.
