A furious comeback attempt fell just short by the Indianola boys basketball team at Wells Fargo Arena on Thursday as they fell to Southeast Polk 64-56, while the Indianola girls fell to the #14 in class 5A Rams 66-30 in a doubleheader heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Indians boys had an early lead in the first quarter 7-5, but a 16-2 run put the Rams up at the end of the first quarter 21-9, then an quick three-pointer put them up 24-9. The comeback attempt took the next two quarters, as the Indians trailed at the end of the third quarter by just one points 42-41. It was then they ran out of gas however, scoring only two points the first four minutes into the fourth as the Rams built an unassailable lead. George Blake led the team with 21 points, while Easton McGraw had 14.

Head coach Jeff Ebling tells KNIA Sports the team will look hard at what worked and what didn’t on film against a good Southeast Polk team, and try to apply those lessons to Carlisle next week.

The Indians girls fell behind 27-5 after the first quarter with too many turnovers, then trailed 41-13 at halftime. Indianola played the Rams close in the second half, but the deficit was too large and the Indians fell to their third straight ranked opponent. Lauren Olson had eight points to lead the squad.

The Indians boys fall to 2-4, while the girls are now 3-6, and both teams will travel to Carlisle on Monday.
