A former Pella Christian girls basketball player has found a new role within athletics at the University of Northern Iowa.
After serving as a team manager for the Panthers women’s basketball squad during her freshman year, 2023 Pella Christian graduate Karlie Anderson gave up that role to help with the production of broadcasts for a variety of UNI athletic events on ESPN+. As part of the internship, Northern Iowa Students are required to help with 12 broadcasts per semester, which Anderson said she far exceeded by helping with over 20 this past fall. Karlie said that she has really enjoyed learning more about what goes on behind the scenes of what viewers see on TV.
“I really didn’t know how much work went into it at all. The amount of people that are in the control room when we’re in there, I just play a really small part in the whole, bigger process. There’s people who do this as their full time jobs and I think that is super cool and something I’ve definitely become more interested in.”
Anderson says she will continue to help with future ESPN+ broadcasts at Northern Iowa upon returning from studying abroad in Australia. Hear more from Pella Christian alum Karlie Anderson on Today’s Lely Radio Sports Page.
