The Indianola girls and boys basketball teams were swept by Warren County rival Carlisle in a non-conference doubleheader Monday, the girls falling 63-37 and the boys 64-57 as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
The Indianola boys fell behind 15-5 early in the first before the offense would catch up, and then went ahead hitting a season-high eight three-point shots in the second quarter to go ahead 38-32 at half. The Wildcats went on a run to reclaim the lead while the Indians offense stalled in the third quarter, and despite keeping the game close they couldn’t close the gap. Head coach Jeff Ebling said they have to continue to work on finishing, and worked through some injuries and hot shooting from Carlisle to make it a close game despite falling short. George Blake scored 15 to lead the team.
The Indians girls had 12 turnovers in the first quarter as the Indians trailed 20-9 after the first eight minutes before settling down and playing more even in the second quarter, but the damage was done. The Indians made only two field goals in the third as the deficit ballooned, and the benches emptied in the fourth. Lauren Olson led the team with nine points, as the team shot 8/23 from the free throw line.
The boys fall to 2-5, the girls to 3-7, and both teams return to Little Hawkeye Conference play on Friday at Dallas Center-Grimes.
