A member of Jasper County’s Community Development Department is being promoted to fill the new position of Assistant Director. The Jasper County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Brett Jennings for the new position during their regular meeting Tuesday. Jennings has been the department’s Planning and Zoning, and Building Official and will begin his new role on Saturday. Brandon Talsma, Chairman of the Jasper County Board of Supervisors, says the Assistant Director position was created with current Community Development Director Kevin Luetters’ retirement in mind. 

“This is part of a reorganization. It increases responsibilities for Brett, who will most likely take on more responsibility as Kevin gets closer to retirement. It also frees up Brett’s position so next fiscal year we can look at hiring his replacement so that person can work on certifications. It will take that person a year and a half to two years to get certified.”

Talsma noted there were problems with building, electrical, and plumbing inspections when the Community Development Director prior to Luetters retired.
