The Pella Convention & Visitors Bureau is receiving a $5,700 Iowa Tourism Grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. These funds will be used to install a custom-designed, 360-degree, 3D wooden shoe at Brinkhoff Park.

“As an organization committed to enhancing the beauty and functionality of our public spaces for visitors, we believe this project perfectly aligns with our mission and will serve as a valuable addition to the city’s landscape,” said Ann Frost, Executive Director of Visit Pella.

Brinkhoff Park, a designated Blue Star Memorial Marker, is a gateway into Pella, and includes a windmill and tulip displays in bloom.

“Brinkhoff Park serves as a key entry point to Pella and reflects our community’s charm and history,” said Jeanette Vaughan, Community Services Director. “This new addition will offer locals and visitors another reason to stop and enjoy this beautiful park.”

The custom shoe, fabricated by Janssen Fabrication, includes a mobile bench component, making it more than a stationary sculpture. Its mobility allows the feature to travel to other parks and events across the city.

“We take great pride in ensuring our guests have the best possible experience when visiting our community,” said Jessi Galligan, Chair of the Visit Pella Board. “Taking photos with windmills, tulips, and klompen enhances that experience, creating memories tied to Pella’s rich heritage. Having the wooden shoe ready by Tulip Time 2025 will mark the start of this exciting addition and help us celebrate the 90th anniversary of Tulip Time—a milestone in Pella’s history.”
