The City of Knoxville saw major improvements at the Main Street and Attica Road intersection last year after several accidents occurred in 2023.
The intersection was addressed at a city council meeting in 2023, due to the fact that six crashes occurred at the intersection over a twelve month-span. A flashing stop sign was installed at the intersection to help slow down traffic, but the council ultimately agreed last January that more precautions needed to be in place. The council approved the installation of an additional stop sign on the west side of the northbound approach, installation of an overhead flashing beacon warning arm over the northbound traffic of the stop ahead sign, and reduced the speed limit to 25 mph starting at Washington Street. Police Chief Aaron Fuller says that the extra precautions taken by the city have yielded positive results.
“Main and Attica in the past has been a problem intersection, but I am happy to report that we haven’t had an accident there in quite awhile.”
According to Fuller the intersection now had eight indicators to show there is a stop sign ahead.
