The City of Newton is reminding residents with dogs, cats, and miniature pigs that pet licenses need to be renewed by March 31st. After that deadline, a $20 late fee is added.
The Newton Police Department Records Unit is responsible for selling the pet licenses. They can be purchased or renewed in person at the Newton Police Department Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cash, checks, debit, and credit cards are accepted. There is a 2.35% fee added for card payments. A Newton Pet License for a neutered or spayed dog or cat is $15, A license for an unaltered pet is $25. The owner must also present a receipt showing the pet has a current rabies vaccination. For miniature pigs, the pet license fee is $15, plus the owner must have a receipt showing the pig meets breed standards, is neutered or spayed, and up to date on vaccinations.
