The Norwalk boys wrestling team dominated three opponents at Thursday’s Des Moines East Quad, improving to 14-3 on the season. The Warrior girls wrestlers went 1-2 at the Nevada Dual Tournament, placing seventh with a close win over Indianola.
The Class 3A 11th-ranked Norwalk boys scored wins of 80-0 over Des Moines North-Hoover, 64-11 vs. Des Moines East and 54-16 against Marshalltown. Eleven Warrior wrestlers finished 3-0 on the night, including three pins by 113-pounder Asaiah Martinez. Madox Ward, Blake Stanford, Tyler Stanford and Kolton Borcherding-Johnson all pinned two opponents while Aiden Moret, Liam McLaughlin, Dominic Tigner and Kadan Borcherding-Johnson each had one win by fall.
The Norwalk girls lost to Nevada (51-28) and West Marshall (48-24) in the first two rounds of the Nevada Duals before outlasting Indianola 36-33 in the consolation final for seventh. Kaylie Popiano’s third pin of the night at 130 pounds, along with five wins by forfeit, pushed the Warriors past the Indians and improved their record to 3-5. Norwalk’s Brookelynn Lonnevik, Hannah Smith and Madelyn Carroll added pins against West Marshall and Maya Wojtowicz won by major decision vs. Nevada.
The Norwalk boys will host a dual meet on Saturday morning while the girls will compete in a dual meet at Carlisle.
