A large  pool of applicants have submitted their names for the position of Administrator of the Jasper County Veterans Affairs Office. The application deadline was last Friday and Jasper County Human Resources Director Dennis Simon says close to 20 individuals applied to fill the vacancy in that role. 

According to Simon, a hiring committee will be formed to review the applicants that the Veterans Affairs Commission are interested in. The hiring committee will consist of Simon, one of the County Board of Supervisors, a veteran, and two Veterans Affairs Commissioners. The committee will then make a hiring recommendation to the full Jasper County Veterans Affairs Commission, who will have the final say on which applicant is selected to fill the Administrator position. The Jasper County Veterans Affairs Administrator reports directly to the Jasper County Veterans Affairs Commission.

Last month the Commission fired previous Administrator, Alyssa Wilson, after an internal investigation into her work habits. Since Wilson’s termination, the Jasper County’s Veterans Affairs Office has been operating with outside assistance from the state and Veterans Affairs Offices in neighboring counties.
