The Newton boys wrestling team participated in the Ottumwa Invitational Saturday, while the Cardinal girls wrestled in a tournament at Ogden and the NCMP boys swim team traveled to an invitational in Spencer. 

The Cardinals boys wrestling team placed 12th out of 24 teams at Ottumwa, and had eight top ten finishes. Kent Montgomery placed second at 106 pounds, and Nick Milburn also reached the Championship match at 215 pounds and took second. Coleby Revell placed sixth at 285 pounds. Lane Rozendaal was seventh at 157 pounds, Aiden Robson placed eighth at 150 pounds, and Abel Aldama was ninth at 113 pounds. Tenth place finishes from the Newton boys came from Zander Robson and Sebastian Sorenson at 132 and 138 pounds, respectively. 

At Ogden, the Cardinal girls wrestling team took 15th place in a  27 team field. Kylee Adams placed third at 105 pounds and Ashlyn VanManen finished fourth at 190 pounds. No other Newton wrestlers were among the top eight in any weight class.

The NCMP boys swimming team took second in the five team field at the Waterloo West Warhawk Invite in Spencer. Decorah won the event with 332 points, followed by the Cardinals at 324 points. Newton won the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, and Finn Martin won the 200-yard Freestyle and the 100-yard Butterfly for Newton. 

The Newton boys wrestling team returns to action next Saturday for an invitational in Centerville, while the Cardinal girls wrestling team is off until a dual at Dallas Center-Grimes on Thursday, January 25th. The NCMP boys swim team‘s next meet comes at the end of the month, when they travel to Fort Dodge on Saturday, January 28th.
