The Norwalk boys wrestlers went 3-0 in their home tournament on Saturday while the Warrior girls wrestlers, bowling teams and boys basketball team all suffered at least one defeat.
The Class 3A 11th-ranked Warrior boys were dominant in the Norwalk duals, defeating Cedar Rapids Washington 76-3, Davenport North 65-12 and Knoxville 82-0. They improved to 17-3 overall, finishing their three duals with a combined 23 pins, five technical falls and nine forfeits. Ten of the pins came against Knoxville and nine more were against Davenport North.
Eleven out of 14 Norwalk wrestlers finished 3-0 on the day. Kale Wadle at 138 pounds and Kolton Borcherding-Johnson at 285 both won all three of their matches by fall, including Wadle’s 14-second pin vs. North. Asaiah Martinez (113), Blake Lee (144), Liam McLaughlin (150), Dominic Tigner (157) and Kadan Borcherding-Johnson (165) each added two pins. The Norwalk boys will wrestle a quad meet at Boone on Thursday.
The Norwalk girls wrestling team went 0-3 at the Carlisle Duals, falling to Indianola (36-18), Carlisle (57-22) and Williamsburg (54-16). The Warriors are 3-8 on the season. Kaylie Popiano picked up a pair of wins by fall at 130 pounds while Madelyn Carroll earned a pin and a major decision at 135. The Norwalk girls travel to Pella for another quad meet on Tuesday.
The Norwalk bowling teams were both defeated by Oskaloosa at Statesmen Lanes. The girls lost 2,341 to 1,931 and are now 4-2 on the season. The boys lost 2,926 to 2,623 and are now 2-4 overall. The Warriors’ top two-game series scores included Tanner Housley’s 471 and Blake Halsted’s 437. Housley bowled the high game of the day with a 257. For the girls, Ellery Racz had the top series with a 318, followed by Julia Palen’s 262. Kerriane Berry and Atto White both added a 245. The Warriors will take on Clarke on Thursday at Air Lanes.
The Norwalk boys basketball team traveled to Cedar Rapids Kennedy and lost to the Class 4A fourth-ranked Cougars 70-41, falling behind 42-22 at halftime. Leading scorers for Norwalk included Kaleb Foltz with 11 points, Tim Koerselman eight and Tillman Papcun six. Trey McKowen tallied 18 points, six assists and four steals for Kennedy. The Warriors, now 4-5 overall, return to Little Hawkeye Conference play on Tuesday night at Newton.
