The 2025 Iowa Legislative session begins today, with both the House and Senate breaking into committees to introduce bills for discussion. State Senator Julian Garrett tells KNIA News he will again focus on conservative budgeting principles that won’t take the entire 99% of the Revenue Estimating Conference numbers, and property tax reform will continue to be a big issue.

“I think there will be discussions. I’m not on the Ways and Means Committee, which is the committee that starts those issues. But that is a big issue, a lot of people are concerned about it and have talked to their legislators and complained their property taxes are going up. So I would agree that will be another issue we will be considering. It is kind of difficult because property taxes fund the schools, cities, and the counties.”
