Knoxville and Pella Christian split two basketball games on Monday night with the Eagles winning the girls game 65-34 and the class 3A #5 Knoxville boys running away from Pella Christian 70-43 in the nightcap with both games heard live on KNIA and KRLS. The Eagle girls broke out of the gates to lead after the first quarter 19-2. A 16-0 run was sparked by an Ava Nikkel three pointer.
The rest of the game was played relatively even with the Eagles slowly building onto the lead. Pella Christian was led by Rachel Kacmarynski scoring 18 of her 20 points in the 1st half. Knoxville was led by Iselynn Prevo’s six points. The boys game was the Lincoln Norris Show as he splashed a school record ten three point bombs and 32 points to help keep the Panthers perfect on the season. Pella Christian led after one quarter 12-10, but a Knoxville 10-0 run took control and led by ten at halftime, and stretched the lead to 18 by the end of the 3rd quarter and won by 27 points. Knoxville Coach Joel Keady told KNIA/KRLS Sports Pella Christian’s zone defense was tough to play against, but when Norris started bombing away, there was no defense that could stop him.
Keady: “They came out in zone and we’ve seen a decent amount of zone. When Lincoln gets hot, he makes about 90% in practice which is silly, but they found him when he was open and capitalized on it.”
Landon Norris scored 17 points as Knoxville moves to 8-0 on the season while the girls drop to 2-8. The Pella Christian girls improved to 5-7 and the boys dropped to 4-6. Knoxville will travel to Albia tonight with the boys playing for 1st place in the South Central Conference. That doubleheader can be heard live on 95.3 KNIA. Pella Christian heads to Dallas Center-Grimes, and that twin bill can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
