Central College will honor the spirit and work of Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday with an alternative day of learning for students.
In place of regular coursework, faculty and students will participate in educational opportunities in honor of King’s legacy. The day will begin with the opening remarks in Douwstra Auditorium at 9:30 am, which will feature an Introduction by the Black African American Student Union, land acknowledgment by student Winona Van Berkum, a musical performance by Stan Dahl and Lance Dyzak, and a time to celebrate black poets with Valerie Billing and Kate Nesbit. Students will then participate in service projects and/or academic sessions beginning at 11 am.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Day events at Central will conclude with a panel discussion hosted by The Black African American Student Union at 2:30 pm.
