Food service account debt in the Newton School District has passed $17,000 dollars, according to the district’s food service supervisor. Julie Miller provided an update on the unpaid accounts during Monday night’s Newton School Board meeting.
“We have twelve families in the district who owe $300 or more. Three of those owe over $500 or more. Some of them are pushing closer to $700 they owe.”
Miller says several of these families have filled out free and reduced priced meal applications and did qualify. The debt they owe is for the meals their students had before getting qualified.
