The Pella Dutch bowlers swept Ballard Thursday afternoon behind several school record performances. Pella’s boys defeated Ballard, 2886-2861, while the girls outlasted Ballard, 2128-2009.

Xavia Walker led the girls with a 234 game and a 379 series. The 234 set a new high game school record, and the 379 placed Walker second all time in high individual series. The girls shot 1458 for a new school record in High Individual Match Round Score, and the 2128 set a new school record for High Match Score. The girls also shot 876 in one individual game, placing them third in that category. Aurora Rankin also contributed a 179 game and a 328 series.

Carter Failor led the boys with a 279 game and a 524 series. The 524 set a new school record for High Individual Series, and the 279 matched the third place record in the High Individual Game category. The boys had an individual round game of 1213, good for fourth all-time. Alex Bishara finished with a 243 and a 405 series.

Head Coach Bryan Smith, “Both of our teams bowled really well against great Ballard teams that shot season highs of their own. I thought all our kids stepped up in some pressure situations to throw big shots when we needed to have them. Carter threw the ball so well all day. Xavia was on fire throughout the match, and Aurora showed the potential we knew she has. The great part about these two teams is we see so much more talent that hasn’t quite broken out yet. I know there are guys and girls on this team that are almost ready to take the next step. Once they do, these teams are going to be really good very quickly.”

Girls Wrestlers Split at Home Triangular; Boys Fall to DCG
Pella’s girls wrestlers defeated Knoxville 60-24 and fell to DCG 56-18 in a triangular at home. Kenadi Montgomery and Elizabeth Thomas both went 2-0 with a pair of pinfalls.

Head Coach Adam Hale, “It was really fun getting to some of our old teammates again tonight with Serenity and Andie from Knoxville. Even though they’re not wearing the green anymore, we still consider them such an important part of our program as they helped us lay the foundation as a part of our team the first two years of our program. We miss getting to see them wrestle all the time, so it’s nice getting times like tonight where we get to see them and how much they’ve improved.”

The Dutch girls finish their homestand this Saturday with an invitational tournament.

Pella’s boys wrestlers fell 76-6 to #15 in 3A Dallas Center-Grimes at the same meet as the girls. Logan Bruxvoort had the lone victory for the Dutch. Pella returns to action Saturday at Solon.
