The first ever girls basketball team at Indianola High School was honored Friday evening, celebrating 50 years of the program. Cindy Johnson scored the first basket in school history, and she tells KNIA News the program has come a long way and gone through many ups and downs, but Friday night was special to be a part of to see old friends get together and have the community support 50 years of girls basketball at Indianola.

“When we played our first game back in 1974, the gym was packed. I’m sure they wanted to see what is this phenomenon that is girls basketball. Not everybody gets to be the first at something, so it was really special for us to get to be a part of that.”
