Much of the region is about to experience the coldest air of the winter season, according to the National Weather Service. Multiple cold weather advisories will go into effect, starting this morning for some and expanding to most of the state by Sunday. Over the next several days, wind chill values locally will dip from between 20 to 25 degrees below zero. Dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in under 30 minutes. The air will be the coldest overnights and in the mornings through Tuesday. This is the first time “Cold Weather” advisories have been issued locally after the National Weather Service tweaked the name of what were previously “Wind Chill” advisories.
