Newton’s bowling teams will stay in town to compete today while the boys wrestling and swimming teams will be traveling to away meets.
The Newton girls and boys bowling teams host Bondurant-Farrar and Oskaloosa at Cardinal Lanes. It’s the first competition for the Cardinals since January 6th, when both teams lost to Sigourney-Keota. The Newton girls and boys have identical 3-2 records. Oskaloosa’s boys team is 6-0 and their girls are 5-1. Bondurant-Farrar’s boys have a 5-2 record while the girls are 2-5.
The Cardinal boys wrestling team will be in Centerville for an invitational that has 14 other schools scheduled to participate. Newton has been idle since placing 12th out of 24 teams at a two-day event in Ottumwa last Friday and Saturday. The Cardinals had eight top ten finishes. Kent Montgomery placed second at 106 pounds, and Nick Milburn also reached the Championship match at 215 pounds and took second.
The NCMP boys swim team is one of eight schools competing at an invitational at Cedar Rapids Washington High School. The squad is coming off a second place finish out of a five team field at the Waterloo West Warhawk Invite in Spencer last Saturday. The Cardinals won the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, and Finn Martin won the 200-yard Freestyle and the 100-yard Butterfly.
The Newton bowling team gets their event at Cardinal Lanes underway at 9 a.m. The Cardinal Wrestling team’s invitational in Centerville starts at 9:30 a.m. while the NCMP boys swim team’s invitational in Cedar Rapids begins at 12:30 p.m.
